INNOVATE
VISION ZERO – Adopted by the AAMS Board of Directors in March 2005, Vision Zero is our goal of zero fatalities or serious injuries in the medical transport community. Vision Zero initiatives incorporate a combination of Commitment, Attitude, Technology, Training and Education (CATTE).

AAMS' Fixed Wing Referral program, for example, has referred thousands of patients to AAMS' members over the years.
The Atlas and Database of Air Medical Services (ADAMS)
AAMS teamed up with the Center for Transportation Injury Research (CenTIR) in Buffalo, NY to create ADAMS, the Atlas & Database of Air Medical Services. ADAMS includes descriptive & geographic information on air medical service providers, their communication centers, base helipads, RW aircraft and receiving hospitals. The need for such a data resource is driven by newly-emerging Automatic Crash Notification (ACN) technologies which are changing both the content and the manner in which motor vehicle crash emergency messages are routed. The ADAMS database is currently an important resource for the Department of Homeland Security. To date, all AAMS RW Program Directors have received a username & private password that allows them to access to the data collection web-forms for their flight program. Air Medical Transport Conference (AMTC) – HOSTS NEARLY 2600 OF YOUR PEERS AND CUSTOMERS!
The annual AMTC provides up-to-date information on the latest techniques and innovative approaches to air medical practice from community experts while giving attendees lots of opportunities to earn continuing education credits. Medical Transport Leadership Institute (MTLI) – SELLS OUT EVERY YEAR!
An intensive continuing education experience and certification for individuals currently managing medical transportation services, those seeking management positions, and others with direct and indirect involvement who desire greater understanding of this dynamic profession. The Institute operates with a rigorous approach to competency-based education, utilizing formal classroom hours, mandatory participation, written testing and oral presentations. Graduates of the two-year program will receive certification as a Certified Medical Transport Executive (CMTE).
AAMS Spring Conference – AN INTIMATE, ESSENTIAL GATHERING FOR EVERYONE - NOVICES TO EXPERTS - TO HAVE THEIR VOICES HEARD ON CAPITOL HILL!
This conference is held each spring in the Washington, D.C. area. The focus is on legislative, regulatory and reimbursement issues. Members are encouraged to participate in our grassroots efforts and visit their Congressional representatives on behalf of the community. In addition to the grassroots lobbying, we also offer the highest quality educational content that consistently receives rave reviews! Attendees learn about what regulations are affecting them, how to speak out locally on issues affecting them, billing and reimbursement insights, leadership and management issues, and much more!

Numerous publications designed to continually expand your knowledge of the air medical and critical care ground community as well as provide guidelines for standards that raise the bar on safety in our community. Research delivered free to you - from flight program data collection to membership surveys to supporting the community’s foundations! Research abstracts are presented at the annual conference, and AAMS is taking the lead in operational and financial benchmarking for use in protecting and securing the air medical community’s position within health care. Surveys have been conducted on hospital heliports, community salaries, member interests, transport fees, flight volumes, Medicare reimbursement, etc.
ADVOCATE
Hands on approach to shaping the legislative and regulatory policies for the community. From supporting appropriate reimbursement of medical transports to fighting for federal exemptions from aviation taxes on fuel, AAMS ensures that its members have a voice in what is happening in our community.
A special message from AAMS...
It is hard to understand the impact of non-profit associations, foundations, and professional societies on national policy without actually participating in the interaction between these organizations and the federal government.
The impact is profound.
There is almost nothing done in Washington without the consultation of non-governmental organizations like AAMS; it is usually through the combination and compromise of numerous interests. There is an organization for every possible interest group that would conceivably hope to influence public policy, from semiconductors to pet sitters. One hears terms like “Special Interest” and “Lobbyist” on the nightly news and these words conjure images of the back-room dealings of a corrupt government haggling with industries gone amuck. Let me assure you, this is not the case.
A very important focus of AAMS and these other organizations is to represent the best interests of their membership in government. This is why AAMS is constantly taking positions, making official statements, and writing official comments to government offices like the FAA or NTSB. Once the membership has made their public policy stance, it is up to government relations professionals and lobbyists to give a voice to these positions and execute those policy goals.
In the past several years, AAMS has made great strides in all areas of government relations and advocacy. With the formation of the Congressional Air Medical Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives, AAMS now has a valuable tool for the support and introduction of legislation that could greatly benefit the entire emergency medical transport community. In the 110th Congress, the Caucus continues to help AAMS address issues like the reauthorization of the FAA, the inclusion of air medical services Homeland Security grant funding and disaster response plans, and continuing Medicare and Medicaid issues. Member contributions to the AAMS Political Action Committee will help us establish AAMS as a more effective and more visible trade association both in Congress and throughout the federal government.
In short, with the grassroots support of AAMS members and the continued vigilance of committed volunteers and expert staff, the outlook for AAMS government relations efforts has never been better.
