Congressional Air Medical Caucus

A congressional caucus is a group of members of the United States House of Representatives that meets to pursue common legislative objectives.

Dear Members of the U.S. House of Representatives:

The Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS) is very excited about the renewed effort underway to reform the United States healthcare system.  AAMS wishes to invite you to join the Congressional Air Medical Caucus.

Air medical service providers transport over two thousand critically ill and injured patients each day in the US.  Currently there are over 300 provider agencies, predominantly non-government in corporate structure, who operate over 700 rotor craft, 150 fixed wing aircraft, and 200 ground critical care units throughout the US.   Most air medical providers are either allied with hospital systems or serve as a community resource to EMS agencies.

Every day, air medical service providers transport severe trauma patients from accident scenes to emergency rooms, and transport critically ill patients between medical facilities.  This comprises most of the work of our association members.

For many rural Americans, air medical transport is the only access to definitive care.  Level one trauma centers have contracted to urban areas, and there are now fewer full-service multi-specialty hospitals.

Our Goals

1. Create a forum for the discussion of legislative and regulatory issues facing our community, including Medicare reimbursement, taxation, and federal aviation policy;

2. Integrate air medical services into national disaster response planning;

3.  Build Congressional understanding of the air medical community’s critical role in rural health care.

To join the Congressional Air Medical Caucus,
please contact Schylr Greggs with Congressman Pete Sessions at (202) 225-2231.
